A day for harmless pranks, hoaxes and practical jokes, marked in the United States and in many other countries, ending with a cheerful reveal.

April Fools' Day falls on Thursday, April 1, 2027. That is 156 days away.
For one day, a little trickery is expected. People play harmless pranks on friends, family and coworkers, and the person fooled is often greeted with a quick "April fool" once the joke is revealed.
The day is marked in the United States and in plenty of other countries, each with its own habits. The best pranks are small and kind. Think of a cereal box holding a different cereal than the label promises, googly eyes on everything in the fridge, or a desk chair swapped with a coworker's identical one. The joke lands, everyone laughs, and nothing is broken or wasted.
Newsrooms, websites and companies sometimes join in with straight-faced fake announcements. Part of the tradition is reading every headline with one eyebrow raised.
A good prank has a few rules. It should be easy to undo, it should not embarrass anyone in a way that stings, and the reveal should come quickly. Food tricks are a favorite, as long as everything involved is actually food. A plate of "meatballs" that turn out to be chocolate truffles, or cupcakes frosted to look like mashed potatoes, gives the fooled person something good to eat once the surprise wears off.
The person who gets fooled the hardest is often the one most eager to plan next year's trick.
