National Arabian Horse Day falls on Friday, February 19, 2027. That is 115 days away.
The Arabian horse is easy to pick out once you know what to look for. The face is often slightly dished, with a concave profile, large eyes and small, curved ears. The tail is carried high, like a flag, especially when the horse is moving.
It is one of the oldest horse breeds and comes from the Arabian Peninsula, where it was bred for desert life. That history shows in the build: a compact body, strong lungs and a reputation for stamina over long distances. Arabians are a common sight in endurance riding, where horse and rider cover many miles in a single day.
They are also known for being alert and people oriented. Owners tend to describe them as sensitive and quick to learn, which can mean a horse that notices everything, including the plastic bag three fields away. Many lighter breeds carry Arabian ancestry, so traces of that face and carriage turn up in horses that are not Arabians at all.
Most people meet an Arabian at a horse show, a riding stable or a parade. Watching one move is the best introduction. The trot looks light and springy, and the head stays up and curious.
If you visit a barn or show, ask before approaching any horse and follow the handler's lead. A horse that seems calm can still startle, and the people who care for it know its habits best.
