A day for pulling the guitar out of its case or closet, tuning it up, and playing again, whether you know three chords or three hundred.

Get Out Your Guitar Day falls on Thursday, February 11, 2027. That is 107 days away.
Somewhere in a lot of homes there is a guitar leaning in a corner or tucked under a bed in its case. This day asks you to go find it, open the latches, and play.
The first minutes are usually tuning. Strings drift when an instrument sits, and a guitar that has been resting for months may sound like it has opinions. A clip-on tuner or a free tuning app sorts it out quickly. After that, fingertips remember more than you expect. The chord shapes you learned years ago tend to come back after a few tries, even if the calluses do not.
People mark the day in simple ways. Some play the one song they always played. Some finally learn the intro they gave up on. Others swap old strings for new ones, which can make a tired guitar sound bright again. Acoustic or electric, nylon or steel, any guitar counts, and so does a ukulele borrowed from a cousin.
Playing with other people changes the feel of it. Two guitars strumming the same three chords can carry a whole room through a sing-along, and nobody needs to be good for that to work.
If the guitar has been in a closet a long time, check the neck and strings gently before tuning all the way up, and leave it out of the case afterward where you will see it tomorrow.
