Fun ยท January 15
A day for hats of every kind, from wool beanies and baseball caps to fedoras, sun hats and the one in the closet you never wear.

National Hat Day falls on Friday, January 15, 2027. That is 80 days away.
Hats are among the oldest pieces of clothing people still wear every day. They keep heads warm in winter and shaded in summer, and they say a fair amount about the person underneath without a word spoken.
The variety is the fun part. A knit beanie is soft and stretchy and folds into a pocket. A baseball cap has a stiff brim to block the sun from your eyes. A fedora is usually made of felt, with a creased crown and a brim that can be snapped up or down. Straw sun hats, cowboy hats, berets and bucket hats each have their own shape, their own weather and their own crowd.
Most people mark the day simply by wearing one. Offices and classrooms sometimes turn it into a casual hat day, and it becomes a quiet parade of team logos, grandparents' tweed caps and at least one hat with ears. Others pull out a hat that has sat on a shelf for years and finally give it an afternoon outdoors.
Hats also carry stories. A cap from a first job, a hand-knit hat from a relative, a souvenir from a long trip. Asking someone about the hat they chose often gets a better answer than asking how their week is going.
If a hat has gone flat or dusty, a light brushing and a little steam from a kettle can help a felt brim keep its shape again.
