A little reason to celebrate

Look for Circles Day invites people to notice the round shapes hiding in plain sight, from clock faces and manhole covers to tree rings and coffee mugs.

Look for Circles Day falls on Monday, November 2, 2026. That is 6 days away.
Circles are everywhere once you start counting them. The rim of a mug, the face of a wall clock, a button, a doorknob, the lid on a jar. Look for Circles Day asks you to go looking on purpose.
The idea is simple. You walk through an ordinary day and keep track of the round things you pass. Most people run out of fingers before lunch. Wheels are the obvious ones, but there are quieter circles too: the rings left by a wet glass on a table, the ripples when a pebble lands in a puddle, the pupil of a cat's eye in dim light.
Part of the appeal is that a circle is such a plain shape and still so useful. It has no corners to catch on, it rolls, and every point on its edge sits the same distance from the middle. That last fact is why lids twist on smoothly and why wheels give a steady ride.
Nature makes plenty of them. A cut tree stump shows rings, one for each year of growth. The full moon looks like a disk. A bird's nest, seen from above, is roughly round.
Some people turn the day into a photo hunt and see how many different circles they can collect in an hour. Kids tend to be very good at it, partly because they are closer to the ground, where the drain covers and bottle caps live.
If you look up from this page, there is probably a circle within arm's reach right now.
