Made in the USA Day falls on Friday, July 2, 2027. That is 248 days away.
Turn over a coffee mug, a pair of boots or a cast iron pan and you might find three words stamped there: Made in USA. The day is about those goods and the people who make them, from large factories to one-person workshops.
The label covers a wide range of things. Furniture, baseball bats, guitars, kitchen knives, pickup trucks, jeans, maple syrup and hot sauce all come out of American towns. Some makers have worked in the same building for generations. Others started in a garage a few years ago and still answer their own email.
Most people mark it quietly. They check a label before buying, or take a second look at something already in the house to see where it came from. A drawer of old tools often turns out to hold a surprising amount of American steel. Others spend the afternoon at a farmers market or a craft fair, where the person who made the thing is usually standing right behind it.
Local manufacturing is also something you can see in person. Some breweries, candy makers, potteries and woodshops offer tours or have viewing windows, and watching a machine shape a bat or a worker pour a candle is oddly hard to walk away from.
The stamp on the bottom of that mug was put there by someone, somewhere in the country, who checked that it came out right.
