A little reason to celebrate
Awareness ยท November 15
A day about philanthropy: giving time, money and skills to help others, and the many ordinary people and groups who make that giving happen.

National Philanthropy Day falls on Sunday, November 15, 2026. That is 19 days away.
Philanthropy is the practice of giving to improve other people's lives. The word comes from Greek roots meaning love of humankind, and in everyday use it covers donations of money, time, skills and goods to causes and communities.
The word can sound grand, as if it belongs only to people with their names carved over library doors. In practice most of it is quieter. A neighbor who coaches a youth team, a retiree who sorts cans at a food pantry, a family that sets aside a few dollars each month for a local shelter. All of that counts.
People mark the day by noticing the giving that already surrounds them and adding a little of their own. Some volunteer for an afternoon. Some write a thank you to someone who gave their time freely. Others take a moment to learn about a nonprofit in their own town, what it does and who it serves.
Giving does not have to be large to matter to the person on the receiving end. Many community groups run mostly on volunteers, so an extra pair of hands on a busy day can be exactly what they need.
Libraries, parks, food banks and animal shelters in many towns rely in part on donated time and money. Next time you walk past one, it may be held together by people you have never met.
