National Pink Day is about the color pink: where it shows up, how people wear it, and why a pale red earned a name of its own.

National Pink Day falls on Wednesday, June 23, 2027. That is 239 days away.
Pink is a pale red, the color you get when red is mixed with white. It runs from the faint blush of a seashell to the loud pink of a highlighter, and it shows up in more places than people tend to notice once they start looking.
Nature uses it generously. Flamingos are pink, and their color comes from pigments in the food they eat. Cherry blossoms, peonies, salmon flesh, the inside of a conch shell and plenty of sunsets all land somewhere on the pink scale. The kitchen has its own collection: strawberry milk, pink lemonade, watermelon, rhubarb, cured ham.
Marking the day is mostly a matter of choosing pink on purpose. People wear a pink shirt or scarf, bake something with a pink frosting, or arrange pink flowers on a table. Some go for a single pink accent. Others commit fully and find out how many shades they already own, which is often more than expected.
The word itself has a story. Pink is also the name of a family of flowers, the dianthus, whose petals have edges that look trimmed with pinking shears. The color name grew from the flower, so in a sense the blossom came first and the shade borrowed its name.
