A day for proofreading: reading slowly and carefully to catch typos, missing words and small errors before writing goes out into the world.

National Proofreading Day falls on Monday, March 8, 2027. That is 132 days away.
Proofreading is the last careful pass over a piece of writing. It is not rewriting or editing for ideas. It is the slow hunt for the typo, the doubled word, the comma that wandered off, the name spelled two different ways on the same page.
The tricky part is that your own writing is the hardest to check. You know what you meant to say, so your eyes glide over what you actually typed. That is why a missing "not" can sit in a sentence for days, quietly reversing its meaning.
People who do this well tend to slow themselves down on purpose. Some read aloud, which forces every word to be heard. Some print the page, since paper looks different from a screen. Others read backward, sentence by sentence, so the meaning stops carrying them along. A ruler or a blank card held under each line works too, and it has been a proofreader's trick for a long time.
Marking the occasion can mean tidying something you already sent, like an email signature or a résumé, or trading documents with a friend, since fresh eyes find what tired ones miss. It is also a chance to look at signs and menus with a kinder kind of attention, spotting errors without needing to point them out.
Spell checkers help, but they only know whether a word exists, not whether it belongs. "Their" and "there" both pass every time.
