A day for Prosecco, the light, bubbly Italian sparkling wine known for its fresh fruit flavors and easygoing style.

National Prosecco Day falls on Friday, August 13, 2027. That is 290 days away.
Prosecco is a sparkling white wine from northeastern Italy, made mostly from a grape called Glera. It tends to be light, fizzy and fruity, with notes that people often describe as green apple, pear or white flowers.
Most Prosecco gets its bubbles in large pressurized tanks rather than in each individual bottle. That method keeps the flavor bright and simple, which is part of why it feels relaxed rather than formal. The bubbles are usually a bit softer and frothier than in some other sparkling wines.
Labels can be confusing at first. "Brut" is the driest style, while "Extra Dry" is, a little unexpectedly, slightly sweeter than Brut. "Dry" is sweeter still. Reading that line on the label before buying saves some surprises at the table.
People usually pour it cold, in a tulip or white wine glass that lets the aromas come through. It works on its own as an aperitivo, and it is a common base for mixed drinks such as the Bellini (with peach purée) and the Aperol Spritz. Salty snacks like olives, prosciutto, potato chips and fried foods tend to pair well with it.
An opened bottle loses its fizz fairly quickly, so it is best shared with a few friends rather than saved for days.
