A little reason to celebrate
Nature ยท March 26
Solitude Day is about choosing time alone, how it differs from loneliness, and what happens once the restless first minutes pass.

Solitude Day falls on Friday, March 26, 2027. That is 150 days away.
Solitude is time alone that you pick on purpose. Loneliness is the ache of wanting company and not having it. The two can look identical from the outside, one person on a bench, but they feel nothing alike from the inside.
The first stretch is usually the hardest part. Ten minutes in, the mind starts listing errands, replaying a conversation, reaching for a phone that is not there. Most people who keep at it describe a turn somewhere after that, when the fidgeting fades and attention settles on whatever is in front of them. A creek, a cup of coffee, the sound of a neighbor's sprinkler.
Outdoor places suit this well because they give the eyes something to rest on without asking for anything back. A quiet trail, the far end of a park, a porch at dusk. Solitude does not require wilderness, though. A parked car with the engine off can do the job, and so can a kitchen before anyone else is awake.
It helps to set a length ahead of time. Twenty minutes is easier to commit to than an open afternoon, and knowing the end is coming makes the restless part easier to sit through. Some people bring a notebook, not to produce anything, but to give stray thoughts a place to land so they stop circling.
Telling someone where you are going is sensible if the spot is remote. Being alone by choice works best when someone knows roughly where you chose to be.
