National Spicy Guacamole Day falls on Saturday, November 14, 2026. That is 18 days away.
Spicy guacamole is the familiar avocado dip with a deliberate kick. Ripe avocados are mashed with lime juice and salt, then joined by chopped onion, cilantro and fresh chilies such as jalapeño or serrano. Some cooks add a pinch of cayenne or a spoonful of chipotle for a smoky edge.
The pleasure is in the balance. Avocado is rich and cool, lime is sharp, and the chili arrives a moment later as a slow warmth rather than a slap. A good bowl tastes bright first and hot second.
Heat is easy to adjust once you know where it lives. Most of a chili's fire sits in the pale inner ribs that run along the inside of the pepper. Scrape those out with a spoon and the heat drops considerably, and the seeds tend to come away with them. Leave the ribs in, or add a second pepper, if you want more. Serranos usually run hotter than jalapeños, so a little goes further.
It helps to add chilies in stages and taste as you go, since you can always add heat but cannot take it back. Wash your hands after handling cut peppers and keep them away from your eyes. Gloves make the job simpler.
Guacamole browns as it sits, so mash it close to serving and press plastic wrap right against the surface if it has to wait in the fridge. Tortilla chips are the usual partner. Sliced cucumber or jicama makes a cool, crunchy scoop that gives the tongue a short break between bites.
