A little reason to celebrate

National Techies Day

Fun ยท October 3

National Techies Day recognizes the people who keep computers, networks and gadgets running, from help desks to server rooms.

National Techies Day

National Techies Day falls on Sunday, October 3, 2027. That is 341 days away.

Somewhere right now, a person is asking a coworker whether they tried turning it off and on again. That coworker is a techie, and this day is for them.

Techies are the people who understand the machines the rest of us lean on. Some work in IT departments, resetting passwords and replacing cables. Others write software, look after networks, repair phones or build computers at the kitchen table for fun. Plenty are not professionals at all. Every family seems to have one relative who gets the call when the printer stops talking to the laptop.

Much of their work is invisible when it goes well. Email arrives, the video call connects, the files are still there in the morning. People tend to notice tech only when it breaks, which means the person who fixed it is often thanked in a hurry, if at all.

Marking the day can be simple. A note to the help desk, a coffee for the colleague who rescued a presentation, or a patient question asked with real curiosity all count. Some people use the day to learn a skill of their own, like how to back up a phone or clear a stuck browser.

Techies often say the best part of the job is the puzzle: a problem with no obvious cause, a few clues and the moment the answer clicks into place.
