A day for odd facts, quiz nights and the small thrill of knowing which planet spins on its side or what a group of crows is called.

National Trivia Day falls on Monday, January 4, 2027. That is 69 days away.
Trivia is the art of knowing things nobody asked about, until somebody does. It covers the stray facts that collect in a mind over the years: capital cities, song lyrics, the names of moons, the rules of games nobody plays anymore.
The pleasure is partly in the recall and partly in the surprise. A good trivia question makes you lean forward. You either know it instantly, or you almost know it, and that second feeling is the one people chase. A group of crows is called a murder. Uranus rotates on its side. Facts like these stick because they sound made up.
Most people meet trivia in company. Bars and restaurants host quiz nights where teams with elaborate names huddle over answer sheets. Families play board games built on question cards. Friends text each other a single strange fact and wait for the reply. It works alone too, with a book of quizzes or a daily puzzle, though bragging is harder without witnesses.
Writing questions is its own skill. The best ones have a single clear answer, give the player a fair chance to reason toward it, and reward curiosity more than memorization. A question about why something is true tends to land better than one about a number.
If you host a game at home, mix easy questions with hard ones so every team scores something. Keep a reference handy for disputes, because there will be one.
