A day for traveling without leaving home, through street-view maps, museum tours, live animal cams, travel films and food from faraway places.

National Virtual Vacation Day falls on Tuesday, March 30, 2027. That is 154 days away.
A virtual vacation is a trip taken from a chair. You pick a place you would like to see, then visit it through a screen, a book, a recipe or a playlist, and come back in time for dinner.
The tools are better than they used to be. Street-level map imagery lets you wander a harbor town or a mountain road one click at a time. Many museums post online galleries of their collections. Zoos and aquariums run live cameras, so you can watch penguins shuffle around or jellyfish drift without buying a plane ticket.
Some people plan the day like a real trip. They choose one destination, cook a dish from that region, put on music from there and finish with a film set in the same place. Others treat it more loosely, hopping from a canal in one country to a desert in another before lunch. Both approaches count. Nobody checks your passport.
It also works well with company. Families can let each person choose a stop, and friends in different cities can tour the same online exhibit while talking on the phone. Kids tend to like steering the map.
The part that travels best is the food. A bowl of noodles, a plate of tacos or a loaf of crusty bread can carry a lot of a place in it, and the kitchen is usually open.
