Administrative Professionals Day is about those people: secretaries, executive assistants, receptionists, office managers and everyone else whose job is keeping the work around them in order. Some still call it Secretaries Day, and plenty of offices shorten it to Admin Day.
It falls on the Wednesday before the last Saturday in April, which means it moves around a little each year.
The work itself is wide. Administrative staff schedule calendars that refuse to line up, greet visitors, manage records, order supplies, draft letters and answer the same question many times with the same patience. Much of it is invisible when it goes well. People tend to notice it only on the rare day it doesn't.
Most workplaces mark the occasion simply. A team might sign a card, bring in lunch or pastries, or set flowers on a desk. Often the most appreciated gesture is the plainest one: a specific thank you that names something the person actually did, like the conference they made run smoothly or the crisis they quietly headed off.
The day also reaches beyond offices. Schools, clinics, churches and small businesses rely on front desk and support staff too, and many of them are thanked the same way. A note that says what made a difference tends to stay pinned to a corkboard long after the pastries are gone.
