A little reason to celebrate

Frankenstein Friday

Fun · Seasonal · The last Friday in October

Frankenstein Friday brings the famous monster into late-October life with costumes, creature-feature movie nights and a little spooky reading.

Frankenstein Friday

Frankenstein Friday falls on Friday, October 30, 2026. That is 3 days away.

The last Friday in October hands the evening to Frankenstein's creature, a figure who turns up at this time of year on porches, at parties and on screens. The focus here is the season more than the story. It is the night the monster comes to visit.

The costume is one of the easiest in the closet. A dark jacket a size too small, heavy boots, a little green face paint and a few stitches drawn on with eyeliner will do it. Walking stiffly is optional but expected, and most people discover they are surprisingly committed to it once the boots are on.

Many people mark the night with a creature-feature gathering. The old monster movies, many of them in black and white, move at an unhurried pace and lean on shadows and music rather than shocks. That makes them easy company for a mixed group, including people who usually skip horror. Lights low, a bowl of popcorn and a blanket or two are the whole setup.

Others prefer a quieter version: a few chapters of a gothic novel read aloud by lamplight, or a short ghost story traded around the table. Late October suits this kind of thing. The evenings come early, the air turns cool, and a slightly eerie story feels right at home.

If there is a party, save a few minutes near the end for costume photos by a single lamp. Harsh side light makes painted stitches look far more convincing than they ever do in the bathroom mirror.
