Iced tea gets its own day: brewed tea served cold over ice, plain or sweetened, with lemon, mint or fruit, and a favorite across the US.

National Iced Tea Day falls on Thursday, June 10, 2027. That is 226 days away.
Iced tea is exactly what it sounds like. Tea is brewed, cooled and poured over ice. Black tea is the usual base, though green tea, herbal blends and fruit teas all work, and each gives a different glass.
There are two easy ways to make it at home. The first is to brew tea hot, a little stronger than you would drink it, then let it cool and chill it in the refrigerator. The extra strength matters, because melting ice waters it down. The second is cold brewing: steep tea leaves or bags in cold water in the refrigerator for several hours, then strain. Cold brewing tends to taste smoother and less bitter, and it asks for patience more than skill.
Sweetness is where opinions split. In much of the South, sweet tea is the default, with sugar stirred in while the tea is still hot so it dissolves fully. Elsewhere, many people take it unsweetened and add their own. A wedge of lemon is the classic garnish. Fresh mint, sliced peaches or a splash of fruit juice show up often too.
The drink rewards small adjustments. Steep a few minutes too long and black tea turns sharp. Use filtered water and the flavor gets cleaner. Freeze some of the tea into ice cubes and the last sip tastes as strong as the first.
Brewed tea keeps best covered in the refrigerator, and most people find it tastes freshest within a day or two.
