A little reason to celebrate
Star Wars Day
Fun ยท May 4
A day for Star Wars fans to rewatch the films, quote favorite lines, and share the space saga with friends and family.
Star Wars Day falls on Tuesday, May 4, 2027. That is 189 days away.
Star Wars is a science fiction saga set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Its stories follow Jedi, smugglers, droids and a sprawling rebellion, all tied together by a mysterious energy called the Force. Fans mark this day in the United States and in many other places, mostly by spending time with the stories they already love.
The usual plan is a viewing. Some people start at the beginning, some pick a favorite, and some argue for an hour about which order is correct before pressing play. Others reach for the animated series, the novels, or the comics, which fill in corners of the galaxy the films only glance at.
The line "May the Force be with you" gets a lot of use, usually said with a straight face and a slightly lowered voice. Costumes come out too. A bathrobe and a cardboard tube make a passable Jedi, and a pair of hair buns can carry a whole outfit.
Part of the appeal is how well the saga travels between generations. A parent who first saw it years ago can sit next to a child seeing it fresh, and both will flinch at the same moments. The music helps. Many people can hum the opening theme without ever having tried to learn it.
For the curious, the lightsaber is the easiest place to start. It is a glowing blade, and in the stories its color often hints at who is holding it.
Ways to celebrate
- Watch a favorite Star Wars film or episode with friends or family.
- Share your favorite quote and ask others for theirs.
- Put together a simple costume from things already in your closet.
- Try drawing your own droid or starship design.
- Introduce someone new to the saga with one well-chosen film.
