A day for Winnie the Pooh, the honey-loving bear of the Hundred Acre Wood, and the gentle stories of him and his friends.

Winnie the Pooh Day falls on Monday, January 18, 2027. That is 83 days away.
Winnie the Pooh is a small, round, honey-loving bear who lives in the Hundred Acre Wood. He began as a character in stories and poems by the English writer A. A. Milne, with drawings by E. H. Shepard, and he has been read aloud at bedtime ever since.
The stories are quiet ones. Pooh goes looking for honey, gets stuck in a doorway after eating too much of it, hunts for a creature that turns out to be his own footprints, and thinks hard with what he calls his very little brain. Around him are Piglet, who worries, Eeyore, who expects the worst, Tigger, who bounces, and Christopher Robin, the boy who looks after them all. Not much happens, and that is the charm. The friends mostly visit each other, have small adventures and look out for one another.
People mark the day by going back to the books. Reading a chapter aloud works well, since the stories were written to be heard. Some people play Poohsticks, a game from the books: everyone drops a stick off the upstream side of a bridge, then hurries to the other side to see whose floats out first. It needs nothing but a bridge, a stream and a little patience.
The name has a history of its own. Milne's son had a toy bear, and the name Winnie came from a real black bear who lived at the London Zoo and was popular with visitors.
