National Workaholics Day falls on Monday, July 5, 2027. That is 251 days away.
A workaholic is someone for whom work fills nearly every hour, including several that were supposed to belong to something else. The laptop comes on vacation. The phone gets checked at red lights. Lunch happens at the desk, usually with one hand on the keyboard.
The word itself is borrowed from the pattern of alcoholic, and it is often said half fondly. Plenty of people use it about a coworker who answers messages at midnight, or about themselves after a long week, with a mix of pride and mild worry.
The day invites two kinds of attention. One is appreciation for the people who keep things running: the colleague who stays late to fix the printer, the parent who juggles two jobs, the small business owner who has not taken a full weekend off in a while. The other is a quieter look at your own habits, and at how the hours actually get spent.
Some people mark it by thanking a hardworking friend. Others treat it as a reason to close the inbox on time, take a real lunch break away from the screen, or go for a walk at the hour they would usually spend answering one more message.
The emails will still be there in the morning, sorted roughly the way you left them.
