A day for beer itself: the grains, hops and yeast behind it, the many styles it comes in, and the easy ways people share a glass.

National Beer Day falls on Wednesday, April 7, 2027. That is 162 days away.
Beer is one of the oldest drinks people make on purpose. At its simplest it is grain, water, hops and yeast, left to do what yeast does best, which is turn sugar into alcohol and bubbles.
Those four ingredients cover a surprising amount of ground. Malted barley gives beer its color and its bready, toasty or caramel notes. Hops add bitterness and aroma that can lean floral, piney or citrusy. The yeast decides a lot, too. Ales use yeast that works warmer and often taste fruity, while lagers ferment cooler and slower and tend to come out crisp and clean.
From there the styles branch out. A pale lager is light and fizzy. A stout is dark and roasty, sometimes with a hint of coffee or chocolate. Wheat beers can be cloudy and soft. Sour beers are tart on purpose, which surprises people who expected otherwise.
Most people mark the day in ordinary ways. They try a style they have never ordered, visit a local brewery, or split a few bottles with friends and compare notes. Glassware matters a little more than you might think, since a glass with room at the top lets the aroma gather.
Serving temperature changes the taste as well. Very cold beer hides flavor, so darker and stronger styles often taste fuller after a few minutes out of the fridge.
