A little reason to celebrate

National Beverage Day

Drink ยท May 6

A day for drinks of every kind, from a cold glass of water to iced tea, lemonade, coffee and the homemade mixes people swear by.

National Beverage Day

National Beverage Day falls on Thursday, May 6, 2027. That is 191 days away.

A beverage is anything poured into a glass, mug or bottle and meant for drinking. That covers a lot of ground: water, milk, juice, coffee, tea, soda, cocoa, smoothies and the odd family recipe nobody else would try.

Most people drink the same few things every day without thinking about them. The morning coffee, the water bottle at the desk, the iced tea with dinner. Pausing to notice them is a pleasant change. Temperature alone changes a drink completely, which is why some people insist on hot tea in summer and others keep a pitcher of cold brew in the fridge year round.

The easiest way to mark the day is to drink something on purpose. Make lemonade from real lemons, sugar and water. Brew tea and chill it in the refrigerator rather than leaving it out. Blend fruit with milk or yogurt for a smoothie. Try a drink from another part of the country, like sweet tea or an egg cream, which despite its name contains neither eggs nor cream.

It also helps to share. A pitcher on the porch or a round of coffee for coworkers turns an ordinary drink into a small occasion. Ask someone what they drank as a kid, and you may hear about a powdered mix, a corner soda fountain or a grandmother's hot cocoa made on the stove.

A good glass of water with ice in it is still hard to beat.
