A day for appreciating dentists, the people who clean, repair and look after teeth, and the teams who work beside them in the chair-side light.

National Dentist's Day falls on Saturday, March 6, 2027. That is 130 days away.
Dentists spend their working lives looking into mouths, which is a job most people would not volunteer for. They examine teeth and gums, fill cavities, fix chips and cracks, and spot small problems before they turn into large ones. National Dentist's Day, also called Dentist Day, is a moment to appreciate them.
A dental office runs on a team. Hygienists do much of the cleaning and polishing, assistants pass instruments and manage the suction, and the front desk somehow keeps the schedule intact. The dentist is the one with the mirror and the small hooked probe called an explorer, tapping along each tooth and reading the results to someone taking notes.
Many people feel a little nervous in that reclined chair, and dentists know it. Good ones explain what they are doing, warn you before the cold air hits a sensitive spot, and wait while you answer a question you could not quite pronounce around their fingers.
Marking the day can be simple. A thank-you card to a longtime dentist goes a long way, as does a kind review for the office staff. Some people use it as a nudge to book the checkup they have been putting off.
The overhead lamp is angled so it lights the mouth without shining straight into the patient's eyes, which explains the slightly awkward way it gets pulled into place.
