A little reason to celebrate
Food ยท March 6
A day for the freezer aisle and the home freezer: frozen vegetables, fruit, dinners and desserts, and the cold that keeps them ready to use.

National Frozen Food Day falls on Saturday, March 6, 2027. That is 130 days away.
Frozen food is food that has been chilled until the water inside it turns to ice, which slows the changes that make food spoil. Peas, berries, fish fillets, dumplings, pizza and ice cream all live in the same cold drawer, waiting.
The trick that makes good frozen food possible is speed. When food freezes quickly, the ice crystals stay small, so the texture holds up better once it thaws. Many vegetables are blanched briefly before freezing, which helps them keep their color.
Most people mark the day without much ceremony, because frozen food is already part of ordinary weeknights. A bag of frozen spinach goes into soup. Frozen mango becomes a smoothie. Someone finally eats the lasagna they froze months ago and is pleased with their past self.
A home freezer rewards a little attention. Labeling containers with what is inside saves a lot of guessing later, since frozen chili and frozen pasta sauce look remarkably alike under a layer of frost. Wrapping food tightly helps prevent freezer burn, the dry, pale patches that form when air reaches the surface.
The freezer aisle also changes more than people expect. Grocery stores carry frozen foods from many cuisines, from pierogi to gyoza to paratha, and trying one new box is an easy way to taste something unfamiliar at home.
