Go Skateboarding Day is about the skateboard itself: four wheels, a wooden deck and the simple urge to roll somewhere and try a trick.

Go Skateboarding Day falls on Monday, June 21, 2027. That is 237 days away.
A skateboard is a plank on wheels, and that plainness hides a lot. The deck is usually layered maple, pressed into a gentle curve with a kicked-up nose and tail. Underneath, two metal trucks hold the wheels and let the board turn when a rider leans.
Go Skateboarding Day asks people to take a board out and use it. For some that means a skatepark full of ramps and bowls. For others it is a smooth stretch of sidewalk, a quiet parking lot, or the driveway where they first learned to push without wobbling.
Skating has its own vocabulary. An ollie is the jump where the rider snaps the tail down and slides a foot forward so the board seems to follow them into the air. Kickflips, grinds and manuals build from there, and most of them take far more falls to learn than to describe. Riders tend to cheer for each other's attempts, landed or not.
Not everyone rolls the same way. Longboards are longer and steadier, good for cruising. Cruisers are small and nimble. Street decks are built for tricks. All of them come down to balance, a bit of nerve, and the sound of urethane wheels on concrete.
Grip tape, the sandpaper-like sheet on top of the deck, is what keeps shoes from sliding off, which is why old boards wear smooth patches right where the feet land.
