Fun ยท October 15
A lighthearted day for grouches, grumps and the mildly cranky, and for the patient people who love them anyway.

National Grouch Day falls on Friday, October 15, 2027. That is 353 days away.
A grouch is someone who has decided, at least for now, that things could be better. The coffee is too hot, the line is too long, the weather is doing something it should not. This day gives that mood a little room.
Most people know a grouch. Some people are one before breakfast and perfectly pleasant after. Others are grouches in a deeper, more devoted way, with favorite complaints they return to like old friends. The word itself sounds like what it describes, low and rumbling, a bit like a door that needs oil.
The day is usually marked in an easygoing way. Friends tease the household grump, offices let someone air one harmless gripe without interruption, and people own up to the small things that reliably put them in a mood. Grumbling out loud can turn out to be oddly social. Two people annoyed by the same squeaky shopping cart are, for a moment, on the same team.
There is also a kinder side to it. A grouch is often someone who cares a great deal about how things ought to be done. Being a little patient with them, or bringing them the snack they like, can soften a whole afternoon.
The classic grouch move is still the simplest one: a long sigh, followed by the words "well, that figures."
