A day for LEGO bricks, the snap-together plastic building toy, and for the builders of every age who make things from them.

International LEGO Day falls on Thursday, January 28, 2027. That is 93 days away.
LEGO bricks are small plastic building pieces with round studs on top and hollow tubes underneath. Press one onto another and they hold together firmly, yet they pull apart again with a little effort. The day is marked in the United States too, by people who build with them and people who simply remember the sound of a bin of bricks being stirred by a hand searching for one particular piece.
The appeal is how much comes from so little. A pile of plain rectangles can become a house, a boat, a robot or something with no name at all. Some builders follow printed instructions step by step. Others ignore the box entirely and invent as they go, which is how a spaceship ends up with a garden on the roof.
Marking the day usually means building. Families clear a table and dump out the collection. Libraries and schools sometimes host open build sessions, and adult hobbyists share elaborate models of cities, trains and landmarks. It also suits a quieter version, one person, a handful of bricks and an hour with nothing else planned.
Old bricks tend to fit new ones, so a collection handed down from a parent or found at a yard sale can usually join a newer set without trouble. Anyone who has stepped on a stray piece in bare feet knows one more thing about them. They are very sturdy.
