A day about promposals, the creative and often public ways American high school students ask someone to go to prom with them.

National Promposal Day falls on Thursday, March 11, 2027. That is 135 days away.
A promposal is an invitation to prom that does more than ask. Instead of a quick question in the hallway, someone spells it out on a poster, hides it in a pizza box, or writes it in chalk on a driveway. The word is a blend of prom and proposal, and it describes a habit that has become a familiar part of spring in many American high schools.
Most promposals rely on a pun. A box of doughnuts might come with a sign asking if the answer is "dough-nut" say no. A bouquet of sunflowers might ask someone to be the one to brighten the evening. The best ones tend to be personal, built around a shared joke, a favorite snack, or a team the other person cheers for.
Some are staged in front of friends or a whole cafeteria, and some are quiet, left on a doorstep or slipped into a locker. Both kinds count. Many people say the private ones feel easier on the person being asked, since an answer comes more freely without an audience waiting.
For anyone past high school, the day is a chance to remember how their own prom invitation happened, or how it didn't. Plenty of adults admit the question was asked in a hurried text or a mumble by the bus line.
A good promposal usually needs nothing more than cardboard, a marker, and a line that makes the other person laugh before they say yes.
