A day about manicures and pedicures: the soak, the shaping, the polish, and the quiet hour of having your hands and feet looked after.

National Mani-Pedi Day falls on Sunday, April 25, 2027. That is 180 days away.
A mani-pedi is a manicure and a pedicure done together, one for the hands and one for the feet. The two usually happen in the same visit, sometimes side by side, sometimes one after the other while the first coat dries.
The routine is familiar to anyone who has sat in the chair. Feet go into a basin of warm water. Nails are trimmed and filed into a shape, cuticles are pushed back, and rough skin gets some attention. Then comes the color, usually a base coat, two coats of polish and a clear top coat. Some people skip color entirely and leave with a buff and a shine.
Part of the appeal is that you cannot do much else while it happens. Your hands are busy being painted and your feet are soaking, so you sit, talk, or watch the street outside. Plenty of people turn it into a standing date with a friend or a parent.
At home, the same steps work with a bowl of water, a file and a bottle of polish. It goes slower and the left hand is always harder to paint than the right, but the result still counts.
Choosing the color is its own small ritual. Salons keep walls of tiny bottles, and people will hold three nearly identical reds against their skin before committing to one. The bottle names tend to be more inventive than the shades themselves.
